What predominately draws residents to Fountain Valley is its central location between the oceanfront and the large metro areas. The town is surrounded by coastal communities Huntington Beach and Costa Mesa on its southeast and southwest, respectively. It’s also a short drive from Long Beach, California, another nationally renowned coastal community.
On its north-to-northeastern end is Anaheim (20 miles) and Santa Ana (7 miles). State Highway 5, the major byway that connects San Diego and Los Angles, is also a short drive away. From the Fountain Valley city center, Los Angeles is a short 30 miles away, and to San Diego 90 miles.

The Huntington Beach High School District
The Huntington Beach High School District contains six high schools, all of which are within driving distance of Fountain Valley. The most popular option for Fountain Valley families, however, is Fountain Valley High School. Fountain Valley High has been recognized as a California Distinguished School twice in the past ten years. It enrolls around 3,500 students each year, and the student-to-teacher ratio is 29:1.
Garden Grove Unified School District
Another school district that services the Fountain Valley Area is Garden Grove Unified School District. Garden Grove Unified is actually the 14th largest district in the state, stretching Anaheim to Fountain Valley, and containing a total of 68 schools at all levels of education. A few schools in the Fountain Valley area include Los Amigos High School, as well as three elementary schools: Allen Elementary, Monroe Elementary, and Northcutt Elementary. Garden Grove has been awarded a number of recognitions in recent years, including the Broad Prize for Urban Education in 2004, and winning in Mathematics for the statewide standardized test Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (and runner-up in English Language Arts behind San Francisco) in 2016.

Fountain Valley is also serviced by the Fountain Valley School District, which runs three middle schools and four elementary schools in the Fountain Valley area.
Fountain Valley Private School Options
Orange County is also home to a number of private and charter schools, including Carden Hall and Pacifica Christian Orange County. Perhaps the most notable private institution in the area is Sage Hill School. According to a report by the Washington Post, Sage Hill is the most academically outstanding private school in the county (and ranked within the top 100 in the nation in terms of private institutions).
Fountain Valley’s Local Economy
The business community in Fountain Valley has been growing over the past 15-20 years. While many Fountain Valley residents choose to commute to some of the larger surrounding metro areas (namely Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Los Angeles), a growing number of residents are beginning to live and work within the city. This is in-part due to the growing number of commercial businesses moving to the Fountain Valley area.
Top employers located in Fountain Valley include Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, Kingston Technology, Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center, D-Link, and Ceridian. Likewise, Fountain Valley is home to the national headquarters of Hyundai Motor America, which has been a large part of the community since its inception in 1986.
